They released their debut album, Black Earth, in 1996. A few years later, Arch Enemy came out with a second album entitled Stigmata which aired in 1998. Unfortunately, for this album, Arch Enemy's bassist Martin Bengtsson replaced vocalist named Johan Liiva. Even sadder, in that same album, drummer Peter Wildoer also replaced Erlandsson. Luckily, things got better for Arch Enemy. In 1999, they released another album called Burning Bridges. In this album, Erlandsson returned. A new person by the name of Sharlee D'Angelo joined the group as the new bassist of Arch Enemy.
